Introduction

In the Cajón del Morado´s north end we find the "big ones" of the mountain system known as the Loma Larga Group, which includes Mesón Alto, Cortaderas and Loma Larga. The Loma Larga is the biggest of them all and is located in the middle of the enormous cirque (also called the "Sierra del Cortaderas") which closes the Morado Valley. It is a white massif that rises its spine gradually and extensively towards the East. Thus the name Loma Larga.

Along the peak´s summit ridge we find three summits of similar altitude: the West Summit (5385m), Central Summit (5404m) and East Summit(5375m). The choice of the route to follow may depend on which of the summits one wishes to attain. For the West Summit, what´s most natural is to follow the West-East ridge (from the Yeso Valley) or by a little more complicated route that goes up the Morado Valley and then the Loma Larga Glacier (South Face). Instead, for the Central Summit, it is more natural to climb up the South Glacier and then turn towards the Cortaderas - Loma Larga col and finally reach the summit along the South Ridge. The East Summit is usually reached from the same col, but following the East side of the South Ridge, by a route described as "bastante difícil" (AD - pretty difficult).
